Frequently Asked Questions
Question

I just finished a restoration cleaning project. The cleaning was the easy part. The hard part was following all the EPA rules and regulations involved in capturing, measuring and treating the cleaning wastewater as it came off the building. Isn't there a better way?

Answer

There is, but first it's important to understand the concerns of your local Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW). The same corrosive characteristics of acidic or alkaline cleaners that are so effective against carbon stains on old buildings can wind up in the rinse or "wastewater" from those buildings. If that wastewater finds its way to the local POTW it may damage the plant's chemical or biological sewage handling system. That's why it's important to ensure the wastewater pH is within an acceptable range before discharge. Enviro Klean® EK Restoration Cleaner can help, because it's near-neutral pH before it ever hits the building. Something else that may help -- PROSOCO's Technical Bulletin 200-CW is a free guide to the issues and answers of handling cleaning wastewater. The rules and regulations of handling cleaning wastewater may seem less difficult when you're armed with information of your own.
